There was flying, crashing, at least one midair, rubber-band winding, super glueing, BS’n, retrieving from the basketball net, bouncing off the ceiling, round-n-rounding, and much more. There were about 9 flyers there, which is a nice turnout for indoor. We covered our expense and then a little–perfect.
The highlight of the evening IMHO, was Mike Light’s scratch-built rubber powered Hanger Rat, which flew so slow it seemed impossible that so few air molecules over the wing could keep it aloft. It flew for nearly 2 minutes slowly climbing and circling. Two minutes is a LONG time– try standing on one foot for 2 minutes and you’ll get the idea. Mike has become very proficient in building and trimming these little rubber machines. Our club is also blessed with a couple other real experts, Gene and Larry, in rubber powered flight. Last night, Mike’s flights were inspiring.
We flew all kinds of planes and had a lot of fun. I only got pictures of some of it (attached), because I forgot I brought the camera until late in the evening.
If you haven’t been to indoor lately, you’re missing a lot of fun. It’s another one of LAFFS’ great RC venues. There’s no excuse for not enjoying RC in Lawton.
