What a great day for flying!

Here are some images from yesterday–some of them self-explanatory, some requiring some additional information. Ron got his new VQ Mustang really dialed in after some initial engine tinkering; Paul flew his newly acquired Hog Bipe in a most entertaining fashion; Dan wowed us all with his UFO and electric; Clem flew his reverse electric conversion Cub most realistically;
Bob perfected his landings with his Four Star 60 (sort of); I flew my Venture and Twinstar EP; Steve buddy-boxed Don, who insisted in cavorting with Mother Nature; Tom’s 4-60 was steady and reliable; and…a good time was had by all! If you weren’t there, we missed you!... Read More

FLOAT FLY REPORT- APRIL 9, 2016

The winds in Norman, OK were forecast to be 14 mph at 10am just about the time we planned to arrive. What’s more, they were supposed to increase each hour to 24 mph. But we went anyway, five of us driving to Norman. Ken and Clem, Steve J and Don H, and Larry going solo.  Ken and I were fueled by Ken’s excitement to finally get his newly acquired Seawind in the water, damn the wind—full speed ahead!  When we got there not only was the wind blowing, but it was also drizzling , overcast, and chilly. The Norman club was nice enough to open the field earlier in the morning than usual to accommodate our visit hoping to get the Seawind’s maiden flight done before the wind got too crazy.... February 27th Flying

For the second Saturday in a row, the weather gods blessed us with light winds until almost noon. The turn-out this week was split between BK and Elkins Field, and while I apologize for not getting any photos of the doings at BK, here is a representative sample of the activity at the field. Bob, Ron, and I were the only ones there until about 9:30 when Gene Wallock and a new bag of salted peanuts showed up, followed by Corky,Ted, and Paul. The look on Bob’s face in one of the attached photos could be mistaken for a smile, but it was actually a grimace as he wrestled with a Super Tigre engine that only put up one complete flight without dead-sticking throughout the course of the morning on his Kaos 60 ARF. The Edge is Ron’s and the micro-Super Cub is mine, headed for Model Aviation/Park Pilot magazines within the week.... Read More

Feb. 20th, 2016 Flying

The weatherman proved merciful to model flying Saturday with light to moderate winds from the south-southwest all morning and into the noon hour. LAFFS had a good representation throughout the morning with close to a dozen members and former members putting in appearances to fly or just visit and kibitz. It was evident that it was a “Big Stik” day from the beginning with no less than half a dozen of the red and white beasts (both glow and electric) showing up and flying.... Read More

Nov. 8th, 2015 Flying

For those who weren’t able to be there, you missed a good flying day—undoubtedly on of the last for this year.  Here are some shots of the planes that put in an appearance.... Read More

Wingz-n-Dawgz Leftovers

We had a nice turn-out to use up the food overage from “Wingz-n-Dawgz”.  In addition to eating some great hamburgers and dogs, there was some fine flying that took place under ideal weather conditions. Thanks to Bob McFadden for not only engineering the whole thing, but serving as the chief cook and bottle washer.... Read More

LAFFS FLIGHT REPORT- WINGZ ‘N’ DAWGZ- 15 AUG 2015

Remember the classic song, “At Last” by Etta James. Well, this was an “At Last” kind of day. We had the Wingz ‘n’ Dawgz flying event at last. After 3 years of trying to do Wingz ‘n’ Dawgz and getting weathered out each time, this time was near perfect. Wind was about 8 SE and the temperature was in the 80s until noon. We had a great turnout, including a pilot from Clinton and several spectator visitors. Besides our shed for cover, Ray Cox had donated to LAFFS, a 10 x 10 pop up tent that we erected alongside the shed giving us plenty of shade. This was perfect. We had room to spread out and everyone could find comfortable shade. A big thanks to Ray for his generous donation. Bob McFadden efficiently hosted the day and held the pilot’s briefing at 0900 sharp, explaining the challenging rules of the Okie Bowling, the 3-RLS event, and the F-22 mass launch.... Read More

LAFFS Flight Report- 28 June 2015

It was another great day of flying and fellowship at Elkins Field in Lawton. Wind was about 6 to 10 mph out of the SW, being a pretty significant crosswind, but no one seemed to mind.  Some members were there early and we were all done about noon. There were no crashes that I saw, so it was an especially good day. Some pictures from the morning are attached.... Read More

LAFFS FLIGHT (FLOAT) REPORT- 1 AUG 13

What a day! Larry, Dan, and Clem showed up at Ski Lake for the big event—a LAFFS float fly. Since we all brought the same type airplane, Tidewater seaplanes, it was like an airshow. The lake had gained a lot of water from the recent rains, which moved the shoreline back about 20 feet on each side. This was a problem because there are now weeds standing in the water offshore. This would block our little foamie seaplanes’ access to open water. When the water was lower, you could walk down to the water’s edge anywhere on the ½ mile long lake. So we had to search for a place to launch. We found a place on one end near the boathouse and dock. The water at that end was a fairly small round part of the lake, but as we found out was plenty of room to take off as the Tidewater gets off the water in about 25 feet. The boathouse, offered shelter from the sun and had a nice big picnic table to set up on. But the boathouse was to haunt us later and end our fun.... Read More

Polar Bear Fly – January 1st, 2010

The ground was frozen enough to drive in on and some flying got done. Larry, Paul, Kris, Steve, Jerry, and Ken attended. They did their best to appease the weather gods as they all got birds in the air. They flew for about an hour, but as the ground warmed up they needed to get out before it turned to mud and they would get stuck. It was cold, foggy, and muddy but they got the flying done!...
