Nine LAFFERS took advantage of the last of April’s weather today and flew at Elkins Field this morning. Light westerly crosswinds resolved themselves to being mostly from the south as the morning went on.
Gene Wallock brought his new OT free flight “Outlaw”, which he had converted to R/C electric power, and Harold Anderson volunteered to do the maiden flight. The plane flew well, as one might expect for a 30s vintage free flight, except for a puzzling wing rocking motion when under about half power and above. That motion turns into a very solid glide with the power off. Our local experts are still wrestling with the possible causes of the rocking phenomenon. The plane certainly appears to be thermal-worthy, so it will be interesting to see it in the air floating on the summer zephyrs later on. Photos of the “Outlaw” are attached. Gene’s usual great building job shows up nicely with the sun shining through the polyspan and tissue covering.
Stay well!
